This time of year, as the sun goes down, the temperature begins to drop quickly.
And for many who have no home to go to, finding a place to escape from the cold weather becomes a race against time. But in Atlanta, freezing temperatures trigger the opening of the City’s warming shelter.
Located just south of downtown at a hotel near the Olympic torch, the shelter provides safety from the biting cold. The Mayor’s Office of Emergency Preparedness mans the facility and makes sure the clients have food to eat and a safe place to sleep for the night – complete with COVID-19 safeguards.
And thanks to the non-profit Hope Thru Soap, there’s also a free mobile shower for them to use in the morning to help get their day started right.
