These Atlanta children have an hour to learn some of the most iconic moves in the history of dance. But the teachers from the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater are among the best in the world – and what they can do is remarkable.
Dance is art that moves and enriches everything it touches – especially the heart.
That’s one of the reasons the Alvin Ailey Extension program partnered with the Atlanta Resource for Entertainment and Arts (AREA) to promote dance. The group teaches kids and adults alike and calls its special relationship with Ailey “magical.”
Indeed, taking dance classes as a little girl had a similar transformative impact on Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. It’s one of the reasons she promotes art through her One Atlanta initiative – to build better communities and to enhance the lives of Atlanta residents.
The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater is celebrating its 60th anniversary and performed in Atlanta at the Fox Theater, February 21-24.
