WHAT’S HAPPENING

The City of Atlanta is partnering with local corporations to help build food resilience through technology with the Living Labs program. On Earth Day, as part of the AgTech Challenge, nine start-ups were selected to participate from dozens of applicants.

Some will use painted shipping containers placed along the Beltline to showcase their innovative solutions.

In fifty years, seventy-percent of the world’s population will be living in urban centers. The need to find creative ways to develop local agriculture will be more important than ever. Leveraging technology and unused spaces to grow food will be critical to the success of that effort.

Education, IoT and future farming technology, economic development and community engagement are all key components of the project. Winners of the challenge will incorporate a wide variety of farming concepts from hydroponics to harvesting insects.
