The difficult work continues to reimagine a new use for the Atlanta City Detention Center. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms wants to turn the jail into a Center for Equity that provides resources to help vulnerable residents make good decisions. The task force charged with deciding what the facility should become will be listening to residents and other members of the public in a series of meetings that will wrap up early next year.

Meanwhile, Department of Corrections Chief Patrick Labat says the jail will continue its legacy of helping inmates, not just through its innovative re-entry program but through a new no-entry program that’s about to be unveiled.
