In Atlanta, police work is as much about building relationships with the community as it is enforcing the law. Teaching residents – and especially their children – that APD officers are there to help, is a critical message for the department.
But recent events in the city have strained that relationship, notably on Atlanta’s southside. And that’s why officers returned to the Pittsburgh community in a very public and very sincere gesture of goodwill.
With the help of Atlanta movie mogul and philanthropist, Tyler Perry, the officers fanned out into the neighborhoods to give away a thousand Kroger gift cards worth fifty-dollars apiece, all of them paid for by Perry.
The mission was simple: spread a little joy – build a little trust.
