The new Kathryn Johnston Park on Atlanta’s Westside is an example of a true urban metamorphosis. The land used to be a desolate magnet of blight and crime. But today it attracts families; the laughter of children has returned; and neighbors no longer take the long way around to avoid the area.
Thanks to a robust public private partnership between the City of Atlanta and dozens of community stakeholders, the park offers more than just fun and fitness. It’s also an innovative way to control the flooding that has long been problematic for residents and motorists.
