Chief Erika Shields and the Atlanta Police Department joined other Metro Atlanta law enforcement agencies in recognition of National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day. The event Tuesday was hosted by APD, Central Atlanta Progress, the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District, as well as the Atlanta Bar Association and the Atlanta Bar Foundation.
To honor the officers who gave their lives to protect others, police aircraft flew in the Missing Man Formation above the solemn ceremony, which was held at Woodruff Park. In addition to Chief Shields, Georgia Bureau of Investigations Director Vic Reynolds and members of the downtown business community spoke at the event, praising police for the work they do to keep the busy district safe.
Citing the success of Super Bowl 53, Chief Shields stressed the need for ongoing cooperation among the various police jurisdictions, as well as the city’s close partnership with local business leaders.
