Beginning January first, Atlanta’s firefighters and rescue personnel will receive their most significant pay raises in more than a decade, thanks to a 15.6-million-dollar plan announced by Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms this week.

The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department invests more than a hundred-thousand dollars on each firefighter it trains. The 25% base pay increase – which does not raise taxes – will make the AFRD’s salaries more competitive and will help keep first responders from leaving the department for jobs that offer better wages.
