By early next year, the task force looking into creative new ways to use the Atlanta Jail will submit its recommendations to Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. In the meantime, the panel has been aggressively seeking input from the community to help with its decision. Many of the members have been talking one-on-one with residents to get a better grassroots insight on the re-imagining of the facility.
The task force itself is deeply diverse, but despite that, the consensus appears to be that the process is working well in a collaborative and inclusive way. Several meetings remain before the group’s work will be finalized and handed over to the Mayor for her review.
