Atlanta has a global reputation for being a welcoming city – in fact, it’s one of the foundational pillars of Mayor Bottoms’ One Atlanta vision. And it’s more than rhetoric. It’s a principle practiced by every department and employee who works for the City.
Of course, that includes the Atlanta Police Department. And if you want to work for the APD, you actually have to take a class designed to build understanding for people who don’t necessarily look like you or share your beliefs.
We sat in on the class before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. It’s taught at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. And it may be one of the most powerful tools in law enforcement – a perfect story for #NationalPoliceWeek.
