Every year, during tax season, many Atlanta residents leave money on the table – sometimes thousands of dollars per household. That’s because a lot of people don’t know that they might be eligible for refunds in the form of Earned Income Tax Credits.

To make sure residents are informed about the EITC, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms partnered with officials from the IRS and The United Way to let taxpayers know that they may be entitled to money that can help change their lives and the lives of their children.

Many people who receive the credit, use it to help with transportation needs, school supplies, clothing, healthcare and even training to find better jobs to lift their families out of poverty. There are also free resources available to make sure you apply for the EITC correctly, like The VITA program and the Taxpayer Advocate Service.

Remember, when it comes to tax refunds, it’s your money. So, don’t leave any of it on the table.
