Even before Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms officially opened the final stretch of the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail to the public this month, neighbors were already making good use of it every day. The quarter-mile addition runs from Kirkwood Avenue to Memorial Drive and cost roughly 6-million dollars, using funds from the BeltlineTAD. Lighting and security cameras have been posted all along the trail for added security. Mature trees, colorful wildflowers and remnants of the old rail line also accent the pathway.
The Eastside Trail connects the Reynoldstown and Cabbagetown communities to Midtown and will eventually link up to the Southside Trail as well, providing a safe alternative thoroughfare for pedestrians, cyclists and scooter-riders to the busy streets of these thriving neighborhoods.
